Friday October 18, 2024:
The NEW kitchenette appliances (filtered water dispenser, fridge, microwave) are shipped and will be delivered to the Wieboldt Commons shortly. A NEW Waterline will be installed into the filtered water dispenser that will have both options (Hot and Cold filtered water). Fridge and Microwave will also be accessible inside the kitchenette.
The NEW Front door entrance into the 2nd FL Student lounge now has a functioning WildCard Reader device for all SPS Faculty/Staff/Students to gain access into this area (see door photo below). Go ahead and try your valid WildCard. (If your WildCard is expired, go to the NU Wildcard office for more details. The 2M FL Student lounge is open and does not require wildcard access, just follow the signs. If your valid WildCard does not allow you access, feel free to send an email to sps-facilities@northwestern.edu with your Full Name, a valid NU email address, and the ID or EMPLID located on the front of the WildCard. Once the Wildcard office verifies your information, access will be granted.
Wednesday September 25 through Monday September 30, 2024:
Wieboldt Commons 2FL AND 2M floors are open for all students to use. Some students have already found their way into these lounge areas and were lounging in them during this first week of classes! The initial furniture delivery brought over from many parts of NU is in this space now and more furniture is expected to arrive sometime in November 2024. Both spaces are open and 2FL kitchenette will have appliances (filtered water dispenser, fridge, microwave) that will be delivered either this or next week. If you did not have a chance yet, come to Wieboldt Hall 2nd FL or 2M FL and check out the new space.

Week of Wednesday – September 11 through Wednesday September 18, 2024: Floor 2M Stairs BEFORE and AFTER photos for Wieboldt Commons. It is coming along… no life-safety (fire alarms, sirens, emergency equipment) (re)installed on this floor yet. After life-safety equipment, scheduling with the city of Chicago for occupancy inspection.

Monday & Tuesday – September 9 & 10, 2024: Wow, all work and tools were cleared out in the late afternoon of Tuesday September 10, 2024 – Check it out (double-click photo to enlarge). Projected occupancy on the 2nd floor is start of Fall 2024 Quarter (Tuesday- September 24, 2024)
Floor 2M pictured below appears far from complete as flooring, painting, and lighting work is still ongoing. (see photos below) – Estimated projected completion for 2M is last week or end of September.
Week of September 3 through September 6, 2024: No work on Monday September 2 due to Labor Day holiday. Work resumed aggressively on Tuesday September 3rd and throughout the week, as new hallway doors were installed, kitchenette cabinets and countertops were installed, and the beginnings of ceiling lighting all happening on the 2nd Floor. The paint has dried with lighting, ceiling, and duct installations continuing well into the following week(s). Pushing for a Fall 2024 occupancy for the 2nd FL. (More photos and information below about 2M FL.)
2nd FL. kitchenette cabinets and countertops installed with beginnings of new lighting installed in ceilings. Once lighting is complete, newly arrived ceiling tiles will commence.
2M FL still lookin’ rough (as shown in photo below) and projected to be completed well into the start of the Fall 2024 quarter.
Week of August 26 through August 30, 2024: Majority of flooring was installed. Kitchenette cabinets arrived and being installed (see photo). Ceiling tiles are being arranged and installed accordingly as lighting fixtures have also arrived (see photo). Kitchenette countertops reported a shipping delay, this delay shifts the start of the punch lists about 1 week. So, from the Two week look-ahead schedule, full punch lists will begin the week of September 9 through 16. Additional information to follow as more details become available, stay tuned…

Week of August 19 through August 23, 2024: More ceiling and flooring tiles have arrived! Kitchenette cabinets, new glass doors, and more ceiling tiles will be delivered next week and installed. Paint is near complete with paint odors waffling through the hallways (no smell-a-vision or scratch and sniff available).
Week of August 12 through August 17, 2024: Welcome back True-Believers – The primer and paint is the work topic this and into next week. The walls are mostly painted with the 1st coat of primer as more coats are applied. If you look closely, you can see the 1st coat application where the walls streaks show in these photos. As work continues into next week, final coats of paint will begin. The ceiling tiles will also be installed as the walls dry – .
Week of August 4 through August 10, 2024: One of our SPS office space finally has a dropped ceiling ready to install tiles. (see photo below). Work is still ongoing with Drywall Taping, Mudding, and Sanding so no updated photos until next week. (Drywall mud is not dry yet) Did not see any 1st coat of paint, per the timeline. That’s it for now, until next week, stay tuned.
The dropped ceiling frame is installed in one of our SPS office spaces, room still looks mighty rough.
Week of July 28, through August 3, 2024:
The Look-Ahead schedule shows the drywalling and ceiling patching throughout this and into next week. Painting will begin mid August. (To view a bigger image click the schedule and image will expand into a new window). Still a lot of work to be done with substantial completion by Fall 2024 quarter.

Week of July 15 through July 26, 2024: Drywalling continues. Taping, sanding, mudding, priming will continue well into the last days of July. See some selected BEFORE and AFTER photos below. The first coat of primer and paint will begin in August with the expected ceiling prep work to also begin inside the SPS offices and main areas.
Week of July 8 through July 12, 2024: Floor 2M accessibility metal railings have been installed and has been welded into place. Floors are taking shape and coming along. Still more than a month+ from laying any flooring/carpeting because painting, ceiling, electrical, HVAC and many more are in the queue to be installed. Nuff said!

These progress photos show 2M space. The “pink photos” shows the future accessibility ramp to the entire 2M space. The half wall and railing shows a better look into the 2M space from the hallway.
These photos below are on the 2nd floor. The first photo is one of two offices (still needs work, check out the ceiling.) The middle is the tutoring space (also no ceiling). The last is the VERY rough kitchenette area.
