SPS-IT & SPS-Facilities News – December 2024

Wieboldt Commons Updates – This will be the final photo updates for Wieboldt Commons as this project is considered substantially complete. NOTE: There will be a small celebration in January 2025 (light refreshments) to celebrate this new space with Faculty, Students, and Staff – check your emails for an announcement. The photos below show a finished Kitchenette with installed and functioning appliances ready for use. The other photos show TWO offices for faculty and staff use. The third space furniture is being re-assembled. As of now, the space is OPEN, simply use your wildcard to access the 2nd Floor space, if you have not seen the space now.

Northwestern Battery Recycling Program: In conjunction with SustainNU, the Department of Research Safety, the School of Professional Studies have obtained battery recycling boxes. These boxes will be placed throughout all SPS buildings (Evanston and Chicago buildings) for all NU Faculty, Students, and Staff to recycle old batteries. All batteries are accepted, so look for these boxes in various lounge locations. For extra convenience, our SPS-IT’s Walk-In Service Desk on the 6th floor of Wieboldt Hall Chicago also has it’s own box. Additional areas to drop off batteries are in Chicago in 345 E. Superior St., Suite 1522 OR Evanston in Hogan Building, 2205 Tech Dr., Suite 5170.

NU’s Environmental Health and Safety department: Spotlight on Safety: Environmental Health and Safety – Northwestern University webpages are published for the NU community to discuss Health and Safety. As the Winter Solstice approaches (December 21) be aware of slip hazards within all NU Spaces and be cautious when walking around inside and outside campus buildings on the Chicago or Evanston campuses.

When you shut down or restart your laptop, it’s not just a break for your device – it’s also an opportunity for it to update its software and recharge its batteries. By doing so, you’ll not only give your laptop a break, but also help reduce energy consumption and prolong its lifespan. So go ahead, take a break from your laptop, and let it recharge for the new year!

Have a Terrific Winter Recess Break and Happy Holidays from your SPS-Facilities and SPS-IT team.
