As 2025 has begun, we celebrate the newly renovated space within Wieboldt Hall – Wieboldt Commons!
Wieboldt Commons Celebration Grand Opening – Join SPS Dean Gibbons on Tuesday January 14, 2025 in Wieboldt Hall on the 2nd FL inside the newly renovated Wieboldt Commons between 2p-3:30pm and take a look at the substantially completed, newly renovated space. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome!

New Digital Signage: While celebrating the grand opening of Wieboldt Commons, take a moment to check out the new digital sign (see photos below)! Located throughout Wieboldt Hall, the digital displays will post upcoming and recent announcements, events, and other happenings. To post an upcoming event, send an email to sps-it@northwestern.edu with “Digital Signage” in the subject line and further instructions will follow once the email is received (allow 24-48 hours).
Abbott Hall and Wieboldt Hall: The Abbott Hall 3rd-floor kitchen now features new chairs for everyone to enjoy (see photo below). The old chairs will be cleaned and redeployed as needed. Additionally, the classroom chairs at Wieboldt Hall have been cleaned, refreshing their appearance after looking quite dingy.
CyberSecurity Awareness … Phishing emails
Although Cybersecurity Awareness Month is typically observed in October, it’s important to stay vigilant year-round in reducing your risk exposure. Phishing (pronounced “fishing”) has become a common threat, often appearing in email attachments. While the University does a great job filtering most spam, always be cautious of suspicious emails and attachments, especially from unknown senders.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues …
The year 2025 promises exciting opportunities to explore advancements in technology. Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to be a transformative force, with its influence expected to expand rapidly. Future laptops and other electronic devices are anticipated to feature embedded AI capabilities. SPS plans to test new laptops with integrated AI technology later this year as these laptops become available.
A NEW Look for SPS-IT & SPS-Facilities Service Tickets: Starting Monday, February 3, 2025, the Service Desk ticketing system will be streamlined! Simply send an email to sps-it@northwestern.edu or sps-facilities@northwestern.edu, depending on your service request, and a ticket will be automatically generated. Be sure to include a clear subject line and detailed issue description in the email.
